Mrs Mackey was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and a good Christian woman. She was held in high esteem by an unusually large circle of friends, was a good neighbor and a loving mother. Nine children survive, 3 of whom live in Wayne County. Mrs J. M. Grady of near Smithville and Mrs Smith and Etta Mackey of Wooster. Excerpt from obituary in the Wooster Daily News , Thursday, Jan 20. 1910.

David F. Mackeky was married in Guernsey County to Sarah Proudfit. They started their family in Ohio and then moved for a few years to Clay County, Illinois. This migration to Illinois was again influenced by the close family ties they had to the Proudfit and Patterson families, who also moved to Illinois. However, the Mackeys decided that Ohio was a better place to live and returned to Wane Co by covered wagon in 1872 or 1875, depending on whose account you want to believe. One can imagine the effort it took to make a move of this magnitude with or 6 kids ranging in age from 1 yr to 12 yrs.

The location of their home was just north of Wooster and was purchased in 1882. What is now Route 3 cuts through the middle of their 82 acre farm. The square brick house was still in a good state of repair in 1982. It standsjust off of the road at a bend in the road near where the Wooster By-pass joins Rt 3. It was basically in the north half of the northwest quarter of Section 27 in Wayne Twp. Later purchases brought the total farm land owned to 176 acres having a value of $7040 in 1894.
